5 Indicators of Squirrels in your attic

Detecting the presence of squirrels in your attic can often be a subtle but worrying sign. These agile creatures typically find their way into attics during colder months for warmth or during breeding seasons for a safe nesting place. Early identification of these unwelcome visitors is crucial in preventing significant damage to your home and in avoiding potential health risks. Being aware of the following signs can aid in recognizing their presence early on, allowing you to seek professional help in a timely manner.

Sounds in Morning and Evening: One of the most noticeable signs of squirrel activity is the sounds they make. In our experience, squirrels are particularly active during dawn and dusk. You may hear distinct noises such as scampering, scratching, or even the rustling of leaves and twigs as they move about or build their nests. These sounds are often more pronounced in the quiet of the morning and evening and can be a clear indicator of their presence in your attic.

Gnaw Marks and Damaged Wires: Squirrels have a natural instinct to gnaw, primarily to keep their ever-growing teeth at a manageable length. This habit leads them to chew on various materials, including wooden beams, electrical wires, and insulation found in attics. Discovering gnaw marks or damaged wires in your attic is a significant sign of squirrels. This not only indicates their presence but also highlights a potential fire hazard due to exposed or damaged electrical wiring.

Squirrel Droppings: The presence of droppings is a clear indication of a squirrel infestation. Squirrel feces tend to be larger and more rounded compared to rat droppings and are often found in areas where squirrels are nesting or feeding. Identifying these droppings in your attic should prompt immediate action, as they can pose health risks due to the bacteria and pathogens they may contain.

Nests or Nesting Materials: Squirrels build nests using materials such as leaves, twigs, shredded paper, and insulation. These nests are typically tucked away in secluded areas but can occasionally be visible. When we have provided our squirrel removal service in Bedford, we have found that discovering a nest or accumulations of nesting materials in your attic is a strong indication that squirrels are residing there. These materials not only signify their presence but also can clog vents and cause other damage to your attic space. Sometimes, its common find some nuts around the nest.

Entry and Exit Points: Squirrels can squeeze through surprisingly small openings to gain entry into attics. Inspecting your attic for any holes, cracks, or damage near the roofline, eaves, or vents can reveal potential entry and exit points for squirrels. These breaches not only allow squirrels access but can also lead to further structural damage and energy inefficiency in your home. Spotting these entry points is critical in understanding how squirrels are accessing your attic and in taking steps to prevent further intrusion.

By keeping an eye out for these indicators, you can detect the presence of squirrels in your attic early on and take the necessary steps to address the issue. Remember, addressing a squirrel infestation promptly is key to protecting your home from the various risks and damages these animals can cause.

Effective Squirrel Trapping and Removal: A Step-by-Step Guide

Dealing with squirrel infestations in your home can be a complex and sensitive task, but with the right approach and techniques, it's entirely manageable. Our four-step process has been developed and refined through years of experience, ensuring both the safety of the squirrels and the effectiveness of their removal. This detailed guide outlines each step of the process, offering insight into how we ensure a thorough and humane approach to squirrel control.

Free Inspection: The initial step in our process is a comprehensive inspection of your property. This isn't just a quick look around; our team conducts a detailed examination to ascertain the full extent of the squirrel infestation and to identify all potential entry and exit points. This step is crucial in developing a customized strategy for removal. We look for signs like gnaw marks, droppings, and nesting materials, as well as listening for the distinctive sounds of squirrels in your attic or walls. Once this assessment is complete, we provide you with a detailed report and the cost for squirell removal. This transparent approach ensures you are fully informed about the scope of the problem and our proposed solution.

Home Sealing: After identifying how squirrels are entering your home, our next step is to seal off these access points. This process involves more than just patching up holes; we use durable materials and proven techniques to ensure a long-term solution, preventing new squirrels from entering and making sure those already inside can't escape. This step is essential for an effective removal process, as it not only addresses the current infestation but also helps to prevent future issues. Our team pays close attention to even the smallest openings, as squirrels can squeeze through surprisingly tiny gaps.

Squirrel Removal: With your home now secure, we focus on the humane removal of the squirrels. This is done using a variety of traps, cages and removal techniques that are designed to be as stress-free as possible for the animals. Our team is trained in the most humane and effective trapping methods, ensuring that each squirrel is safely captured and later released into a suitable natural habitat, far from your home. We strictly adhere to local wildlife laws and ethical standards in all our removal practices. This step is carried out with a deep respect for the animals, as well as a commitment to resolving your squirrel problem effectively.

Restoration and Sanitization: The final step of our process goes beyond simply removing the squirrels. We conduct a thorough restoration of any areas of your home that have been damaged by the squirrels. This includes repairing chewed wires, fixing insulation, and addressing any structural damage. Additionally, we perform a meticulous sanitization of the affected areas. This is a crucial step, as it ensures that any health risks associated with squirrel droppings or nesting materials are effectively mitigated. Our goal is to leave your home not only free of squirrels but also safe and restored to its original condition.

Following this structured and detailed approach ensures that your squirrel problem is resolved comprehensively. Each step is designed not only to remove the current infestation but also to mitigate the likelihood of future issues. I’d give a 10 star review if I could! We had a great experience with Critter Stop. Everyone I dealt was friendly, professional, and reassuring. Phillip was very helpful and knowledgeable about the work he was doing. He walked me around the entire house to make sure I saw and understood the services he provided. He was also really nice and answered all my questions — he is exactly the type of person that should be interacting with customers.I love the fact that they will come back for up to 1 year after installation if any problems occur — this shows me they stand behind their work. The owner was great too, he personally came to my house and walked me through their offering. I recommend critter stop to anyone and everyone!

Critter Stop is a fantastic business! Everyone involved is extremely professional and very easy to communicate with. Chisam, the owner, did a great job of explaining the process to get the squirrels out of my attic during the initial free estimate. The exclusion crew who did all of the initial work was fabulous. The crew consisted of Phillip, Nick and Corey who arrived promptly when they said they would. They are happy, positive employees. Everyone is very polite and patient in explaining their work and answering questions. They came back several times to check the traps and finish it off with the fogging. Lester was very good about following up to schedule each trap check with me, and the office staff who took care of the billing was very efficient. Critter Stop is a well run company with honest, trustworthy employees! Thank you to all of you who worked hard to make my attic critter free and for the peace of mind that you guarantee your work. Great to know I can call them if for some reason a squirrel figures out a way to get back in!
