Plano Skunk Trapping

In the vibrant hub of Plano, Texas, residents frequently deal with various urban wildlife, notably skunks. These creatures are easily recognized by their unique appearance and their defense mechanism of releasing a foul scent, posing distinct challenges to both individuals and businesses in the area.

Skunks are more than just a source of bad odor in urban settings like Plano. Their burrowing can cause significant property damage, and they are potential carriers of diseases like rabies, presenting health risks. When threatened, skunks release a potent odor, leading to discomfort and lingering smells in residential and garden areas.

We'll discuss the particular issues caused by skunks and how Critter Stop's professional team delivers solutions to ensure your property remains safe and free from skunks.

Recognizing a Skunk Infestation: 5 Key Signs

Early and accurate identification of a skunk infestation is crucial for preventing significant damage and health hazards. Critter Stop, with its expertise in wildlife control, has identified five unmistakable signs indicating skunk activity on North Texas properties:

Pervasive Odor: Based on our experience providing skunk trapping services in Plano, we can say that a strong, musky scent is a primary sign of skunk presence. This odor, a result of their defensive spray, suggests skunk activity nearby, especially if it persists around your property.

Digging and Disturbed Soil: Skunks typically dig small, cone-shaped holes while searching for food. Signs of such digging, particularly in gardens or lawns, point towards skunk foraging.

Unique Skunk Footprints: Skunk tracks, characterized by five toes and visible claws, are a clear indication of their presence. These footprints are often found near food sources or in areas like gardens and garbage disposal sites.

Skunk Droppings: Skunk droppings, resembling cat feces but containing undigested food such as insects or seeds, are a significant indicator. When we provide our skunk trapping services, we always tell homeowners that It's essential to handle these droppings cautiously due to potential disease transmission. DIY cleaning with this kind our dropping could be very dangerous.

Structural Intrusion Signs: Skunks often seek shelter in quiet, dark areas like under decks or in crawl spaces. Evidence of skunk nesting, such as burrows or entry points, suggests they might be using these spaces.

Guidelines for Successful Skunk Capture

To trap a skunk without triggering its defense mechanism, follow these important steps:

Choose a Suitable Trap: Select a sturdy live trap of appropriate size for skunks, with a reliable lock to ensure safety and prevent escapes. Critter Stop recommends open, caged traps for clear animal identification.

Proper Baiting: Skunks, being omnivorous, are attracted to a variety of baits. Use strong-smelling and appealing baits like canned cat food, peanut butter, or sardines, placed deep in the trap to encourage full entry and trigger the door.

Strategic Trap Placement: Place the trap in areas frequently visited by skunks, such as near dens or food sources, on a stable surface to prevent accidents.

Regular Trap Checks: Monitor the trap regularly, ideally every few hours, to minimize stress for any trapped skunk and facilitate prompt release.

Careful Release: Wear protective clothing and approach the trap calmly. Open the trap slowly and allow the skunk to exit at its own pace.

Adhering to these guidelines increases the chances of a successful, stress-free capture, ensuring a humane process. If you're uncertain or concerned, contact Critter Stop for professional wildlife control assistance.

I’d give a 10 star review if I could! We had a great experience with Critter Stop. Everyone I dealt was friendly, professional, and reassuring. Phillip was very helpful and knowledgeable about the work he was doing. He walked me around the entire house to make sure I saw and understood the services he provided. He was also really nice and answered all my questions — he is exactly the type of person that should be interacting with customers.I love the fact that they will come back for up to 1 year after installation if any problems occur — this shows me they stand behind their work. The owner was great too, he personally came to my house and walked me through their offering. I recommend critter stop to anyone and everyone!

Critter Stop is a fantastic business! Everyone involved is extremely professional and very easy to communicate with. Chisam, the owner, did a great job of explaining the process to get the squirrels out of my attic during the initial free estimate. The exclusion crew who did all of the initial work was fabulous. The crew consisted of Phillip, Nick and Corey who arrived promptly when they said they would. They are happy, positive employees. Everyone is very polite and patient in explaining their work and answering questions. They came back several times to check the traps and finish it off with the fogging. Lester was very good about following up to schedule each trap check with me, and the office staff who took care of the billing was very efficient. Critter Stop is a well run company with honest, trustworthy employees! Thank you to all of you who worked hard to make my attic critter free and for the peace of mind that you guarantee your work. Great to know I can call them if for some reason a squirrel figures out a way to get back in!
