When to Call an Exterminator for Mice: Signs You Need Professional Help

when to call an exterminator for mice, mice trapper, best product for mice control

A frequent domestic pest, mice can seriously harm your belongings and endanger the health of you and your loved ones. While it may be tempting to try to handle a mouse infestation on your own, there are several situations where calling an exterminator is the best course of action. In the long run, knowing when to hire an exterminator can save you money, time, and aggravation.

One situation where calling an exterminator for mice is necessary is when you have a large mice infestation. If you notice multiple mice or signs of extensive damage, such as chewed wires or furniture, the infestation is likely beyond your ability to handle alone. Additionally, it could be time to hire a professional if you've used do-it-yourself techniques without success. An exterminator can assess the severity of the mice infestation and develop a comprehensive plan to eliminate the mice and prevent future infestations.

If you have small children, senior citizens, or anyone with weakened immune systems in your house, you may also need to hire an exterminator. These vulnerable populations can be harmed by the bacteria and diseases that mice can carry. An exterminator can use safe and effective methods to eliminate the mice without putting your family's health at risk.

Identifying a Mouse Infestation

If you find signs of a mouse infestation in your home, it is important to identify the problem as soon as possible and determine whether it's a single mouse, one or two mice, or a full infestation. Identifying a mice infestation can help you determine when to call an exterminator for mice.

Signs of Mice in Your Home

Several things can indicate that you may have a mouse infestation in your home. These signs include:

  • Droppings: Mouse droppings are small, black, and shaped like rice grains. You may find mice droppings in areas where mice have been active, such as in cabinets, drawers, or behind furniture. Additionally, you may also find mouse urine.
  • Gnaw marks: Mice must bite on objects to keep their teeth trimmed since they never stop growing. You may notice gnaw marks on furniture, baseboards, or other items in your home.
  • Holes: Mice can squeeze through tiny spaces, so you may notice small holes in walls, floors, or cabinets.
  • Nesting materials: Mice may use shredded paper, fabric, or other materials to build nests. You may find these materials in dark, quiet areas of your home, such as in attics or basements.

Health Risks Associated with Mice

Explosive mouse populations make mice infestations a likely problem for homeowners. When humans come into contact with mice, they can catch certain diseases, including hantavirus, salmonella, and Lymphocytic choriomeningitis (LCMV). In addition, mice can trigger allergies and asthma symptoms in some people, and dead mice are also a risk. To ensure your health and safety, you should act immediately if you discover any indications of a mouse infestation in your house.

If you have identified a mice infestation in your home, it is recommended that you call an exterminator as soon as possible. A professional exterminator can help you identify the extent of the infestation and develop a plan to eliminate the mice from your home.

DIY Mice Control Strategies

If you have noticed mice in your home, you may be tempted to try to handle the problem yourself before calling in a professional pest control company. Here are a few DIY mice control strategies to consider.

Preventive Measures

Preventive measures are important to keep mice out of your home in the first place. The following steps are some measures you can try taking that may prevent mice from coming into your property:

  • Seal any cracks or holes in your home's exterior to prevent mice from entering.
  • Maintain a tidy and dirt-free home to eliminate potential hiding spots for mice.
  • Make sure that food is safely stored, preferably in airtight containers, to prevent mice from entering your property in search of it.
  • Fix any leaks or moisture problems to keep your home dry, as mice are attracted to damp areas.

Choosing the Right Mice Trapper

If you have already noticed mice in your home, you may want to consider using a mice trapper to catch them. The following are some tips to help you choose:

  • Look for a humane trap that won't harm the mice.
  • Consider the type of bait that the trap uses. Peanut butter and cheese are popular options.
  • Choose a trap that is easy to set up and use.
  • Read reviews online to find the best product for mice control.

Remember, while DIY mice control strategies may work in some cases, more serious infestations call for a professional exterminator. You must contact a professional extermination company if this is the case for you.

Professional Mice Extermination Services

When it comes to mice infestations, you may wonder if calling a professional exterminator is the best way to deal with it. Although there are do-it-yourself options, there are several advantages to using a reputable mice exclusion service.

Benefits of Professional Exterminators

One of the main benefits of hiring a professional mice exterminator is their expertise. They have the knowledge and experience to identify the source of the infestation, locate all entry points, and effectively eliminate the problem. This ensures that the infestation is completely eradicated and won't return in the future.

Professionals use effective extermination methods that are pet and family friendly, so that’s another major benefit. They have access to professional-grade pesticides and traps that are not available to the general public. These items are made to be effective and can be used around people and animals.

What to Expect from a Mice Exclusion Service

When you call in a professional mice exclusion service, the first step that they’ll take is to carry out an exhaustive examination of your property. This will help them identify all entry points and areas of infestation. After that, they will create a special strategy to get rid of the issue and stop infestations in the future.

The exterminator will use a combination of traps, baits, and pesticides to eliminate the mice. They will also seal all entry points to prevent future infestations. Several days may pass until the entire process is completed, depending on the severity of the infestation.

In conclusion, it is advised that you hire a qualified exterminator if you are experiencing a mouse infestation. They have the know-how, resources, and practical experience to deal with the issue and stop infestations in the future.

After Extermination: Cleanup and Prevention

Sanitizing Your Space

Once an exterminator has eliminated the mice from your home, it's important to clean up any mess they left behind. Mice can leave droppings, urine, and hair that can carry disease and attract other pests. A professional mice cleanup service can help ensure that your property is exhaustively cleaned and secure.

Preventing Future Infestations

After cleaning up, it's important to take steps to prevent future infestations. Mice are attracted to food and shelter, so eliminating those sources is key. Store food in sealed containers and wipe spills and crumbs promptly. Close off any outside gaps or crevices that mice can utilize to enter your house.

If you're unsure how to prevent future infestations, consider consulting with a professional exterminator. They can advise on how to mouse-proof your home and may offer ongoing maintenance services to keep your home pest-free.

If you take these measures, you can help prevent future mice infestations in your property. Don't hesitate to seek professional help if you need it, and stay vigilant to spot signs of a mouse intrusion.

Choosing the Right Extermination Service

When it comes to choosing an extermination service for mice, it is important to select a pest control company that is experienced and knowledgeable in dealing with rodent infestations. To choose the right extermination service, consider the following factors:

Questions to Ask Potential Exterminators

Before hiring an extermination service, it is important to ask some questions to ensure that they have the necessary experience and expertise to handle your mouse problem. Some questions you may want to consider are:

  • Are you fully licensed and insured?
    • Licenses are not required for trapping and exclusion services, but they are for certain rodent poisons.
  • What methods do you use to eliminate mice?
  • How do you safeguard pets and children from your products?
  • Do you provide a warranty or guarantee for your services?

Asking these questions to the professional pest control company can help you determine whether an extermination service is a good fit for your needs.

Understanding Service Guarantees

When hiring an extermination service, it is important to understand their service guarantees. A quality extermination service will provide a warranty or guarantee for their services and stand behind their work. Here are some points to think about:

  • What is the length of the warranty or guarantee?
  • What does the warranty or guarantee cover?
  • What exclusions or limitations are there to the warranty or guarantee?
  • What is required to maintain the warranty or guarantee (e.g. annual inspections, proper home maintenance, etc.)?
  • What is the company's online and offline reputation?
    • A guarantee is worthless if the company has a history of not honoring it.

Understanding the service guarantees can help you make an informed decision when choosing an extermination service for your mouse problem.

By considering these factors, you can determine when to call an exterminator for mice, an choose the right extermination service that will effectively eliminate your mouse problem and provide you with peace of mind.

I’d give a 10 star review if I could! We had a great experience with Critter Stop. Everyone I dealt was friendly, professional, and reassuring. Phillip was very helpful and knowledgeable about the work he was doing. He walked me around the entire house to make sure I saw and understood the services he provided. He was also really nice and answered all my questions — he is exactly the type of person that should be interacting with customers.I love the fact that they will come back for up to 1 year after installation if any problems occur — this shows me they stand behind their work. The owner was great too, he personally came to my house and walked me through their offering. Critter Stop is a fantastic business! Everyone involved is extremely professional and very easy to communicate with. Chisam, the owner, did a great job of explaining the process to get the squirrels out of my attic during the initial free estimate. The exclusion crew who did all of the initial work was fabulous. The crew consisted of Phillip, Nick and Corey who arrived promptly when they said they would. They are happy, positive employees. Everyone is very polite and patient in explaining their work and answering questions. They came back several times to check the traps and finish it off with the fogging. Lester was very good about following up to schedule each trap check with me, and the office staff who took care of the billing was very efficient. Critter Stop is a well run company with honest, trustworthy employees! Thank you to all of you who worked hard to make my attic critter free and for the peace of mind that you guarantee your work. Great to know I can call them if for some reason a squirrel figures out a way to get back in!
